Monday morning, 6:45 am in your average hospital ward. From hundreds of different packages, the nursing staff are carefully dispensing multi-coloured tablets and liquids into separate plastic cups; a personalized assortment of medicaments for each individual patient. Who makes sure the right packages get to the right ward, at the right time and where do they come from?

Thousands of pharmaceutical products are needed in hospitals everyday. Timing, accuracy and availability are here key-factors. Each hospital is usually equipped with its own in-house pharmacy, where pharmaceuticals are stored that are needed on a daily basis. Several times a day, the pharmacy receives deliveries from the nearest pharma distribution centre. The items stored within this kind of warehouse are usually needed at specific times of the day, in large quantities and within a very short space of time. For SSI Schaefer it is usual to build warehousing facilities that commission 10.000 articles at peak times within 20 minutes, commencing from the moment the order is placed to the point the consignment leaves the depot.

These substantial values are made possible by the SSI Schaefer cutting edge technology, like the A-Frame, the SCS (Schaefer Carousel System) or Pick-to-Tote.

The A-Frame is a fully automatic picking system that can commission up to 1.400 orders per hour with the utmost precision.

The SCS is a high speed automated carousel with up to 1.300 storage spaces, for less frequently needed articles.

The semi-automatic picking system, Pick-to-Tote was designed to work in connection with the SCS. It is a highly ergonomic and user friendly work station, that makes manual picking of large or fragile items effortless while ensuring quality and speed of operation.
