SSI SCHAEFER Awards Scholarships in Johor
As a continuing practice to fulfill the company’s social responsibilities, SSI SCHAEFER recently awarded local scholarships for tertiary education in Johor, Malaysia.
The two deserving recipients of the sponsorship are Ms. Najiha Mohd Amran, who is pursuing a Mechanical Engineering degree at University Tun Hussien Onn and Mr. Teo Chee Seong, a Manufacturing Engineering undergraduate of University Kebangsaan Malaysia. Both expressed gratitude and delight in winning the awards.
A simple award ceremony was conducted in the conference room of SSI SCHAEFER Malaysian factory located at Simpang Renggam, Johor on 15 Dec 2008 where two aspiring undergraduates received funding of RM 8,000 each per academic year.
Presented by Mr. Brian Miles, Managing Director of SSI SCHAEFER APAC/ Middle East operations, the ceremony is also witnessed by local dignitaries - District Officer Tuan Haji Razak Bin Md. Salleh from Simpang Renggam District Council, and Mr. Beh Boon Lee, Representative of the Member of Parliament of Simpang Renggam.
“SSI SCHAEFER is pleased to have the opportunity to help develop aspiring talents,” remarked Mr. Brian Miles. ” that includes providing them with ready employment to realize their knowledge beyond the classrooms and lecture halls when they eventually graduate.”
District Officer, Tuan Haji Razak applauded the SSI SCHAEFER’s initiative in sponsoring education and hope that more private organizations will follow suit.
The SSI SCHAEFER Scholarship award was a new initiative introduced in 2008. It was carefully planned and executed by Schaefer Systems International Sdn. Bhd, the first manufacturing plant SSI SCHAEFER established in the Asian region. Operational since 1998 and occupying 62,000 square metres, the plant produces more than 25,000 tons of steel and 2,600 tons of plastic annually.
